Applications
Aircraft Hangars
INITIAL SITUATION
High requirements
The area to be protected of the new A380 hangar at Frankfurt Airport is about 15,000 m² and will be fully covered by permanently mounted turrets. The turret parabolas must be adapted to the conditions on site and the low mounting positions of the turrets. To optimally protect the expensive machinery and building, a very efficient extinguishing system is required. It must ensure the fastest possible extinguishing result and prevent the fire from spreading.
To keep training efforts and costs down, the system was equipped with the same operating elements (joysticks) as the PANTHER and SIMBA airport firefighting vehicles.
EXTINGUISHING SYSTEM
The efficient solution.
Conventional solutions divide a maintenance hall into different fire sections. Depending on the source of the fire, one or more of these segments are then activated.
By contrast, the efficient Rosenbauer turret solution targets the fire directly. The turret is equipped with cameras. The control center is located in a protected area of the hall. The turret is controlled and operated from there. This way potential fires can be extinguished quickly and with pinpoint accuracy.
CAN-Bus controlled turret
Installation expenditures are reduced by linking the turrets over a CAN-Bus controller. All turrets can be operated via a control center or directly.

Large dimensions. Efficient solutions.
The new Lufthansa A380 fleet is stationed and maintained at the base airport of Frankfurt. A new hangar had to be built for this purpose, which was designed for the requirements of the new A380. The first building section is 180 m wide, 45 m tall and 140 m deep and equipped with a Rosenbauer turret extinguishing system.
